The Young and the Ruthless by Victoria Rowell

In the first few pages, I was bombarded with characters who I didn’t remember. I loved Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva, but The Rich and the Ruthless under delivered in it’s over the top camp. I read her because I loved watching her on The Young and the Restless. Thanks to netgalley and Atria books for allowing me to read this book. If you enjoyed Victoria Rowell as Dru then it is worth taking a look at this book. But I wanted the storyline to be pushed further. And I enjoyed Calysta's daughter Ivy joining the soap.

It makes me wonder how much of that type of behavior exists in real life on soaps. It's interesting to read about the characters on this fictional soap the Rich and the Ruthless. I guess the story is supposed to be fiction with parts loosely based on Victoria Rowell's time on Y&R. But after the first few chapters it was much easier to follow. The going back and forth between characters. I found myself a little bit confused at the beginning of the book. For instance the character who runs the soap in this book reminds me a lot of Y&R creator Bill Bell. Even though it's supposed to be fiction, as a soap opera fan you always secretly hope that some of it is based on the author's actual experiences. She was full of spunk just like the character Calysta in this book/series. And I remember watching Victoria Rowell as Drucilla Winters on the show. I am a big fan of The Young & The Restless (the soap opera).
