The Kit Bag: An effective ghost story even though the twist can be seen a mile away. This story is a great example of the type of story Blackwood excelled at, the kind of story that blends psychological terror with an invisible power. The Occupant of the Room: About a man staying at a ski resort in the Alps in a room previously occupied by a now missing woman. They quickly start to realise that they are not alone on the island. It is about two men canoeing down the Danube river and stopping for the night on a small island full of willows. It was reading this story that started my love for Algernon Blackwood. The Willows: I have read this one before. It is a very nice looking edition with fittingly eerie illustrations and a short analysis before and after each story.Īs I mentioned, all of the stories are good, but some of them stuck out to me more than others. When I saw this book, mostly containing stories I had not yet read, I knew I had to have it. I have still not read a story of his that was outright bad. Admittedly, not all his stories are great, but enough of them are to impress me.

He writes in a beautiful but not complicated way. Often very strange but always poetic in a way. I love Algernon Blackwood! A lot of his stories are simply great. I am too lazy to keep translating everything. I might pop in something else now and then, who knows? I will also write only in English, at least for now.
